Among the Google products family, the Google Analytics is perhaps the best product. It is free, robust, and most importantly it measures everything about visitor to your website. Here are my five reasons why one should install the urchin codes.
1. Simplcity. It only requires you insert 5 or 6 lines of script codes just before the </body> tag. Give it a few days and it will start gathering all the 'magical" data.
2. Site Usage. There is no other software out there that shows you the number of visits, number of pageviews, page/visit ratio, bounce rate, average time spent on site, and the percentage of new visits. Pay special attention to the bounce rate. If it is high, it is not good. Supply interesting contents that attracts readers to stay and read your articles.
3. Interactive Maps. On your dashboard, you will see a Map Overlay, which gives you the executve summary of visitors from all continents. If you click on each map, it shows visitors location by country, state, and by city.
4. Visitors Overview. If you want to know your visitor's browser type, languages, network locations this will be the section you need to learn more.
5. Traffic Sources. This is my absolutely favorite section in Google Analytics. Not only does it show you the top traffic sources but it will also show you the best keywords that attracted visitors to your website. If you had created numerous inbound links, after a week or two you may see which website brought more traffic to you. It will defefinetely improve your ranking on major search engines.
